Add to this most Hispanic names including Amarillo, Gruene, Burnet, Refugio, Mexia, Bexar, Kuykendahl, Study Butte, Humble, Bowie, New Braunfels, Boerne, Guadalupe, Waxahachie, Whataburger, San Jacinto, Manchaca, Manor Road, Koenig Lane, and Mueller.
There are probably many more as Texans seem to be proud of being phonetically challenged.
I will not get into the nitty gritty details as to how Texans mispronounces these specific places but those from Texas should know.
I will say that when I moved from Texas to California when I was in the 9th grade I found out how bad Texas butchers everything with an Hispanic origin. In fact I moved to a city right next to Camarillo and that is where the embarrassments began for me. Then I was challenged with La Jolla, Ojai among others.
When I moved back to Texas as a somewhat seasoned adult with a much adjusted and corrected phonetic vocabulary I just smile and quietly laugh at the purposed butchering of many names and places.
Gotta luv Texas...
