The disciples were called Christians...

We do know that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). They did not call themselves Christians but they were called Christians by others. People during that time were well aware of Jesus and it makes sense that when they started seeing all these folks going around acting the way Jesus did that they would call them Christians.

There are  only two other specific references to Christian as a label. One is found in 1 Peter 4:16:  “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf”.

What we take away from this is that if we act as Jesus did through our sufferings in this life and in death itself then people would see what a true Christian is.

As for the third reference to Christian in the Bible it is found in Acts chapter 26 where Paul witnesses to King Agrippa.

Even when you have one of the best examples of a Christian, such as Paul, share the truths of God people will still be for the most part resistant because they would rather glory in their flesh than glorify the Creator of their flesh.

Jesus Himself was not accepted by most of those whom He interacted with. In John 6:66 we see men walking away from Him because they did not like what He was saying.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:10-13
