I know what I was taught most of my life was wrong and out of context.
Modern doctrines on leadership are typically rooted in this single verse:
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1
But God told Hosea something that seems to contradict what Paul wrote in Romans 13:1:
They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off. Hosea 8:4 KJV
When you read the full context of Romans 13:1 in light of the next two verses then you see what qualifies as a leader whom God approves.
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. [2] Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. [3] For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same...Romans 13:1-3 KJV
Can you think of any leaders or governments who are a terror to good works and promotes evil?
We really need to pray for the souls of our elected leaders and we need to pray that our government repents for the many evils it protects and promotes (abortion, homosexuality and many other sexual perversions, usury and many other sins)...
