If there are so many Christians in America then why is this even a problem???

It is estimated that around 70% of Americans identify as one flavor or another of Christianity. (http://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/)

It is also estimated that about 3% of these serve as Foster parents. (http://www.christianitytoday.com/women/2014/june/mythbusting-for-foster-parents.html)

In 2015 there was an estimated 428,000 children in foster care throughout the US. (http://www.childrensrights.org/newsroom/fact-sheets/aging-out/)

In 2015, more than 20,000 young people — whom states failed to reunite with their families or place in permanent homes — aged out of foster care, simply because they were too old to remain. (http://www.childrensrights.org/newsroom/fact-sheets/aging-out/)

In 2015, of the 428,000 children in foster care, more than 17,000 had case goals of emancipation, or aging out after leaving foster care without a permanent family. (http://www.childrensrights.org/newsroom/fact-sheets/aging-out/)

These statistics demonstrate that Christianity in America is lukewarm at best. I say this because there is a constant cry out for help in the foster system year after year.

We have worked for several years with ARROW Child and Family Ministries and they along with others are constantly talking about the shortfall of volunteers needed to help these children. (http://www.arrow.org/more-foster-parents-needed/).

So really, if there are so many Christians in America then why is this even a problem???

Why is this a problem when we are told to deny ourselves and take up our crosses daily (Luke 9:23) and to die daily for Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:31)? This means living a life of sacrifice for others verses pursuing your own selfish desires. My apologies for being blunt here but it needs to be pointed out. If only 3% of self-professing Christians in America are actually doing something about this then that is a tragic indictment against the soul of the Church in America.

When we have scriptures such as Matthew 25:34-46 one would think there would be no shortage of help for these children.

If your excuse is somewhere along the lines of "I could never do that" then your faith in God is either lacking or you are just being honest with your selfishness.

The children need help and we have the ability to give it them. Why are we holding back?

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matthew 25:34-46
