Israel demanded a King and God gave them what they asked for.
It was not God's plan to let Israel be like all the other peoples. He was to be their leader but He let them have their way and allowed them to have their own king instead of Him. They ended up with Saul who turned out to be not exactly what they had hoped for.
God does allow us to have it our way and then, just like Israel, we will be going back to Him begging for Him to fix it.
I think God is allowing things to wind up for the big showdown.
I feel it is immanent.
...Even so, come, Lord Jesus...(Rev 22:20)
