Christian, have you made up a god to suit yourself as well?

Many people today have created essentially false gods in their minds and hearts and claim these are the God of the Bible.

They pull out every verse they can find about God being a god of love and then attempt to rest their case on these scriptures alone. They do this more often than not to suit their own selfish needs.

God is indeed love but they have not included everything.

Many tend to especially leave out the following particular scriptures below. These give more details regarding the full character of God. There are more, of course, but these seem to be the most overlooked ones.

Taking these scriptures into consideration, as we always should, does not take away from the fact that God is a loving God. They do however add to the reality that God is a just God and that He does not like sin, at all...After all He had to send His only Son to die for sins so it makes sense that God does not like nor does He tolerate sin.

The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Psalm 5:5

The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Psalm 11:5

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4

It is a truly fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31) so it is best that we get it right when we say that we serve the one true living God as described in His word.

Anything short of this is a god we are making up in our own minds.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:3-6
