I know of one person who took himself and his family into hyper-dispensationalism and a much more "accepting", if you will, perverted gospel that allows carnal pleasures through what I have come to call a life of greasy grace. Greasy grace is where one believes they can keep on sinning or they have redefined sin in their lives as not sin and thus they can continue on in it under the false notion that they are protected by God's grace. This is despite Paul warning that we ought not to continue on in sin so that grace may abound (Romans 6:1-2).
The following scriptures are some of the more difficult ones that I can think of.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. 2 Peter 2:21-22
The key to dealing with these scriptures and what they are telling us is to stay on the old paths. We need to take joy in the fact we have been saved from sin and death all the while never forgetting nor diminishing the holiness of God in our minds as well as throughout every aspect of our lives.
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…Jeremiah 6:16
Remember also that we were created for His good pleasure and not our own…
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Philippians 2:13
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11
A simple formula to adhere to would be to pray and stay.
Pray without ceasing that you stay in the Word, and stay in constant and joyful service for Him, and that you stay in His will.
Stay on the old paths...
