I wrote these when I was in high school and a couple of them were written in my early years in the military.
I look back and see a lost young man looking for the truth.
I see that young man now certain of his place in God’s kingdom and looking forward to that blessed hope that awaits.
Please do not try to derive any truths from these as they were written during a time when I was seeking the truth but had yet to find it.
See the stars up in the sky
Heathen man says he knows why
This man cares not if he is lost
Into the wind his life is tossed
Round and round his life does go
Where it lands he does not know
Our Home
The third from the sun
Is two-thirds sea
One-third is land
But less is free
Dear Mommy and Daddy
Dear Mommy I ‘m scared please tell me why
Life is not good but I don’t want to die
Dear Daddy I’m confused from where do I come?
Was I brought by the stork or made by the One?
Dear Mommy and Daddy I do want to know
Where does life come and then where does it go?
An Illusion
Tomorrow is
when all nations lay down their guns
And harsh words are laid aside
No more fear for daughters and sons
And no more reasons to hide.
And tomorrow is
when children are no more crying
And they laugh in unity
And innocent people are no more dying
And everyone can be free.
Field of Dust
Here we stand
On this field of dust
Shedding our blood
For a slice of earth’s crust
We fought hard
And we died bold
Some had secrets
That will never be told
We will never return
This was so insane
So that souls may live
We have died in vain
Tell our moms
We did our best
Don’t send us home
Like they did the rest
Bury our bodies
In this field of dust
So no more souls
Will die like us
Am I?
Am I a romantic or am I just a fool?
Or could I be the rebel who’s breaking every rule?
Or could I be the sadist enjoying all the pain?
Or do I want attention by walking in the rain?
Or am I just a human who doesn’t know the plan?
My life is but confusion, I’m doing the best I can.
Careless Confidence:
Goals are made in reality
A sure bet on security
Live a life in fantasy
Sin can kill them instantly
The Chains You Made:
Bound by the chains, the chains of tomorrow;
A goal and a promise, the failure and sorrow.
Bound by the chains, the chains of yesterday;
Remembering the bad times and the good ones gone away.
Bound within sin, the chains you have made;
All the dreams you have had, you watch as they fade.
Confused:
Why do I see, what I see?
Why do I hear, the things I hear?
Am I from apes or the hand of the Lord?
Should I listen to science or believe in God’s word?
Why do I breathe the air I breathe?
Why do I live the life I live?
And when I die is it dust I will be
Or go to heaven and live eternally?
Why can’t I know the things not known?
What are the answers to the questions unanswered?
Will I stay confused until the end of time?
Or will some relieve my troubled mind?
An Illusion:
What looks wrong, could be right.
What can’t happen, it just might.
Things are not just as they seem.
Is life nothing but a dream?
Is this false or is it true?
Where should I go, what should I do?
I’m not sure just what is real.
I’m not sure just why I feel.
Reality is an immense illusion,
Things so real cause such confusion.
Who are we?
This man is black
And this man is white.
This man is wrong
And this man is right.
This man is social
And this man’s alone
This man has riches
And this man no home.
Men hate men for the way they look.
Men hate men for the paths they took.
Who are all men one another
So who are we to judge our brother?
I Exist:
Vibrations gathered by my eardrums
Images gathered by my eyes,
Scents gathered by my nostrils
And the pain I feel implies
That I exist.
I once thought...
I once thought I knew everything to know
But I’ve grown up now and that isn’t so.
There are lots of things that I do not know
But I am alive and that goes to show
That if I don’t know all I will not die
Because I know enough to just get by.
Deterrence:
No gun plus peace talk has no hope to live.
A gun is the one that can take and not give.
A gun to a gun is a much better score.
A gun plus peace talk equals no war.
Sin:
I hear it
I see it
I think it
I do it
I pay for it
