A mom in her mid-thirties was living with addictions. Her drug of choice was meth. She was also dependent on another drug of sort and this was a man who also lived in the drug and alcohol infested world of abuse and had a history of perversion that no child or mother should ever be around. There was also a four year old girl, her daughter, in the mix. While this little girl was being raised in this dark world the mom was once again pregnant and expecting yet another little girl. The mom had not stopped using during this pregnancy and really was oblivious nor cared what happened to this child. Her only concern was not loosing the four year old because she was convinced that she was the only reason why the man, her boyfriend, wanted to hang around...
We are to give our own lives to serve others, not take the lives of others. Jesus led with the greatest of all examples.
What should be done? What is the answer to this dark dilemma?
Some people would actually council the mom to abort the baby. They would say that the baby probably will be born with drugs in her system with who knows what other associated problems that would come along with that. They will also plead that the baby's future would be one of uncertainty and most likely full of pain. They may also plead for the mother's health stating that she is not prepared to birth a child and both her and the child would be at risk if she did.
The truth is, this really happened.
That little girl, our little girl, is now three years old. Yes she did test positive for the drug at birth. CPS stepped in and removed the child and her older sister and we were blessed with being asked to step in to care for them during this time. We fought hard to adopt the children as during the foster process CPS was actually considering placing the children back with either the mom or the boyfriend. Neither were capable of providing a healthy atmosphere for the children to thrive in. Thankfully the process played out correctly and we were finally able to adopt the girls.
Now both are growing beautifully in God's grace. They love Jesus and have hearts to serve others, even at the tender ages of 3 and 7 years.
Yesterday we participated as a family in the Life Chain event. (see Life Chain). I was moved to see our little ones excited to tell others that adoption really is the only loving option when it comes to the unborn whose parents do not want them or cannot properly care for them. I literally saw God's grace as my little three year old angel held up the sign that stated just that, "Adoption is the loving Option".
I am grateful that our girls were not thrown away like so many children are today.
This is only part of the story as we also have two adopted boys as well and their story is pretty much exactly the same. The eldest is 9 years old and he was such a blessing to everyone during the Life Chain event as he ran up and down the line of sign holders, who were mostly elderly men and women, asking them if they wanted chairs to sit on or water to drink. It made my heart happy to see him carry water to the thirsty just as our Saviour has done for us.
Wow, to think that there are people out there that actually believe that God does not exist. We know differently and saw Him clearly at work yesterday. He has been busy making Himself known to us our entire lives!
When asked if we are pro-life or pro-death the answer is very obvious. When I look into the eyes of our four adopted children I see life is the only answer.
We are to give our own lives to serve others, not take the lives of others. Jesus led with the greatest of all examples.
And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Mark 10:44-45
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
Do not forget that even unborn babies are cognizant of our Saviour.
And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: Luke 1:41
