The Fire Fled
The fire had faded
And the newness had fled
They were thirsty for more
Thus embraced the dead
For to them it was new
They were sure it was fire
They accepted the lie
And left the rock for the mire
Yesterday’s righteousness
So desperate to replace
Trading “repent and sin not”
for unqualified grace
They are tossed to and fro
And yearn for tickled ear
They toast grace over all
With glasses full of beer
